Corona App available for download from today

Starting today, the app 'Coronamelder' can be downloaded, we read today in the Financieel Dagblad. The app is intended for this month for a large-scale practical study in regions Twente and Drenthe, but the app would also be installable in the rest of the Netherlands from then on. On Sept. 1, the app should officially go live nationwide.

The app is designed to chart whether the phone's possessor has been near someone who appears to have corona. Via bluetooth, the app automatically keeps track of which other users of the app have been nearby for a certain duration. If one of those users is diagnosed with corona, the app automatically sends a notification. Health minister Hugo de Jonge thinks the phone app can help contain the virus by taking over and further refining some of the contact research done by the GGDs. Are you participating too?
